NORWEGIAN FOREIGN MINISTER MEETS CHIEF ELECTION COMMISSIONER OF PAKISTAN.
Islamabad, the 15th January, 2008:— Mr. Jonas Gahr Store, who is on (2) two days visit to Pakistan, along with his 7 members Delegation called on Mr. Justice (R) Qazi Muhammad Farooq, Chief Election Commissioner yesterday in his office and discussed the matters relating to General Elections, 2008. The Secretary, Election Commission was also present during the Meeting.
2. The Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner appreciated the support of the Norwegian Government in the strengthening of democracy and democratic institutions in Pakistan including its support to the upcoming General Elections to be held on 18th February, 2008. The Foreign Minister was assured that the Election Commission of Pakistan is making all efforts to conduct the Elections in free, fair, transparent and peaceful manner. The International Observers from Norway as well as all over the World are welcomed and will be free to move any where in Pakistan to witness the Electoral Process and for the purpose Accreditation Cards are being issued to enable them to freely visit Polling Stations and view all the Voting Process including the Counting Process at the Polling Stations and in the offices of the Returning Officers. Necessary visa facilities and security arrangements are being made by the concerned Ministries of the Government of Pakistan.
