STATEMENTS OF ACCOUNTS FILED BY 45 POLITICAL PARTIES TO BE PUBLISHED IN THE OFFICIAL GAZETTE

          Islamabad, the 10th September, 2005.- Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Federal Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan has said that the Election Commission in its meeting held today resolved to publish in the official Gazette statements of accounts submitted by 45 Political Parties in pursuance of Article 13 of the Political Parties Order, 2002. The meeting of the Election Commission was presided over by Mr. Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, Acting Chief Election Commissioner and was attended by Hon’ble Members Election Commission from Punjab and Sindh.
 
 
2.       The Election Commission also decided to issue notices to 45 Political Parties which failed to submit their statements of accounts and directed them to submit the same within 30 days otherwise such parties will become ineligible to contest elections on party basis and to obtain an election symbol. Statements of accounts filed by Pakistan Maqsad Himayat Tehreek, Labour Party Pakistan and Mohajir Qaumi Movement Pakistan were returned to them for getting the accounts audited by Chartered Accountants as required under the law. It was also decided to return statements of accounts submitted by following  6 parties, which are not on the record of Election Commission:
                    1.     Pakistan Peoples Party (Submitted by Mr. Jehangir Badar)
          2.       Pakistan Social Democratic Party
          3.       Pakistan Muslim League (Fatima Jinnah)
          4.       Pakistan Qaumi League
          5.       Pakistan Muslim League (Meem)
          6.       Ghareeb Awam  Party                          
 
 
3.       Secretary Election Commission further said that Election Commission appreciated the cooperation extended by Hon’ble Chief Justices of four High Courts and their subordinate judicial officers in successful completion of two phases of Local Government Elections. It also reviewed arrangements for holding elections to Zila Nazims, Tehsil/Town Nazims and members to reserved seats in Zila Councils and Tehsil or Town Councils and expressed its satisfaction for the arrangements made so far.
 
 
4.       The Election Commission also deliberated upon disposal of Election Petitions by the Election Tribunals and emphasized upon the need for expeditious disposal of Election Petitions filed in connection with Local Government Elections, 2005.
 
 
5.       The Election Commission resolved to hold a meeting with Hon’ble Chief Justices of High Courts, subject to their convenience, for exploring possibilities and for devising mechanism for speedy disposal of Election Petitions by the Election Tribunals.
