3 APPEALS ACCEPTED,10 REJECTED AND ONE WITHDRAWN OUT OF 14 APPEALS AGAINST DECISION OF RETURNING OFFICERS REJECTING NOMINATION PAPERS FOR THE SENATE ELECTIONS-2006

Islamabad, the 20th February 2006.- Mr. Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Federal Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan has stated that in all 14 appeals filed against rejection of nomination papers, 3 appeals have been accepted, 10 rejected and one withdrawn.
2- After hearing the appeals the Hon’ble Member Election Commission from Punjab Province, Mr. Justice Nasim Sikandar, Judge Lahore High Court, decided as under:
Federal Capital:
(1) Dr. Nisar Ahmed Sheikh Technocrat Appeal rejected
(2) Mr. Mazhar Ali Choudhry Technocrat Appeal rejected
Punjab:
(1) Mr. Muhammad Akbar General Seat Appeal accepted
Khawaja
(2) Dr. Israr Hussain Shah Technocrat Appeal accepted
(3) Ch. Cecil S. Samuel General Seat Appeal rejected
N-W.F.P.:
(1) Mr. Haroon Bashir Bilour Technocrat Appeal rejected
3- Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan further stated five persons filed appeals from Balochistan Province, which were heard and
rejected by the Hon’ble Member Election Commission, Mr. Justice Ahmed Khan Lashari, Judge, High Court of Balochistan. The detail is as under:
(1) Mr. Muhammad Akram General Seat Appeal rejected
(2) Mr. Muhammad Yousaf General Seat Appeal rejected
(3) Mr. Arbab Muhammad Tech./Ulema Appeal rejected

4. Three appeals were filed from Sindh Province, which were heard and decided by Member Election Commission, Mr. Justice Muhammad Sadiq Leghari, Judge, High Court of Sindh, Karachi as under:
(1) Mr. Muhammad Awais General Seat Appeal rejected
Siddiqui
(2) Dr. Karim Ahmad Khawaja Tech./Ulema Appeal accepted
(3) Mr. Gul Muhammad Hajano Tech./Ulema Appeal withdrawn
4- As a result of rejection of two appeals filed by Dr. Nisar Ahmed Sheikh and Mr. Mazhar Ali Choudhary for the seat of technocrat/Ulema from Federal Capital, Mr. Waseem Sajjad remained the only candidate in the field, hence he has been declared by public notice by the Returning Officer concerned to have been elected uncontested.
5- Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan has clarified that decision of learned Members Election Commission shall be final. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is 21st February 2006 and final list of contesting candidates will be published on 22nd February 2006.
