A DELEGATION HEADED BY SECRETARY, ELECTION COMMISSION OF PAKISTAN HAS PROCEEDED TO BANGLADESH AND NEPAL

          Islamabad, the 26th December, 2008.- A delegation of senior officers of Election Commission of Pakistan headed by Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Federal Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan will visit Bangladesh to observe 9th Parliamentary Elections being held on 29th December, 2008 on the invitation extended by the Chief Election Commissioner of Bangladesh. The delegation will later visit Nepal. Eight days visit will enable the officers of Election Commission of Pakistan to share their electoral experiences with sister Election Management Bodies in Bangladesh and Nepal. The study of electoral practices in other countries of the region is always helpful in further strengthening electoral process in Pakistan. The delegation will return to Pakistan on 3rd January, 2009.

 
2.      The Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan Kanwar Dilshad told that the purpose of these visits is to enable Election Commission of Pakistan to share experiences and understand the best practices developed for free and fair elections. Pakistan has a long history of democratic elections and the Election Commission of Pakistan is well established and experienced. General elections were held in Pakistan in 1970, 1977, 1985, 1988, 1990, 1993, 1997, 2002 and 2008.  He further told that elections held on 18th February, 2008 have won universal acknowledgement as being fairer and transparent.
