A DELEGATION OF INTERNATIONAL CRSIS GROUP CALLED ON THE SECRETARY, ELECTION COMMISSION OF PAKISTAN

 

             Islamabad, the 26th October, 2007:- A two Members delegation headed by Mark L. Schneider, Senior Vice President of International Crisis Group, based in Washington, called on the Kanwar Dilshad, Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan today. The Senior Vice President was apprised of the matters relating to the Draft Code of Conduct of Political Parties, interaction with the Political Parties. The Secretary during the discussion said that in view of the current geopolitical scenario, the forthcoming General Elections are of most importance and significance for the international Communities. In fact the world eyes are focused on this election. The Secretary pointed out that the international and local observers, political parties, NGOs and members of the public would monitor and report on these elections through electronic media.
 
2.         The Secretary briefed the delegation about the Draft Code of Conduct issued for the Political Parties and the Candidates, interaction with the Political Parties, Preparation of Polling Scheme, Organizing and conduct of elections, appointment and training of polling personnel, counting of votes, tabulation and transmission of result after close of the poll. The Secretary also explained in detail the procedure for Computerization of Electoral Rolls and conduct of elections.
 
3.         The Members of Delegation expressed satisfaction and appreciation for all the efforts, the Election Commission is making for holding elections in a free, fair and transparent manner.
