BYE-ELECTION TO THE VACANT SEAT OF PP-97 GUJRANWALA-VII POSTPONED
 
            Lahore the 15th October, 2005.-           Mr. Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, Acting Chief Election  Commissioner of Pakistan, presided over a high level meeting in the office of the Provincial Election Commissioner, Punjab, Lahore, which was attended by Mr. K.M. Dilshad, Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan, Mr. Salman Saddique, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Punjab, Mr. Rahim Nawaz Khan Durrani, Provincial Election Commissioner, Punjab, Mr. Zia-ul-Hassan, Inspector General of Police, Punjab, Mr. Khusro Pervaiz, Secretary, Home Department, Govt. of the Punjab and  Rana Muhammad Aslam Khan, Assistant Election Commissioner (Elections) Punjab. The Govt. of the Punjab requested the CEC that in the wake of colossal devastation caused by the earthquake Govt.  of the Punjab has committed its physical and human resources towards relief and rescue operations undertaken by the Federal Government  and Pakistan Army in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and NWFP. Contingents of relief teams comprising Police, Civil Defence, Health Officials etc. have been dispatched to the affected areas.  Hence, due to national calamity caused by the earthquake and the huge involvement of the Government and the people in rescue and relief operations, it would be appropriate to postpone the bye-election to the vacant seat of PP-97 Gujranwala-VII, scheduled to be held on 22-10-2005.
 
 
            The CEC on the request of the Punjab Government and in view of the prevailing situation, decided to postpone the said bye-election.  Now the by this Provincial Assembly Constituency will be held on 10th November, 2005.
 
 
             Mr. Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Secretary, Election  Commission of Pakistan told that the Oath taking ceremony in the earthquake effected districts of NWF Province will be taken place on 19th of this month, whereas in the remaining districts of the country near about Ninety Thousand elected representatives of Union Councils, Tehsil Councils and Zila Councils will take oath on Monday the 17th October, 2005.
