CANDIDATES FOR ELECTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE PARTY CERTIFICATE AT THE TIME OF ALLOTMENT OF SYMBOLS

            Islamabad, the 25th November, 2007.— The Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan has said that the candidates contesting election to the general seats in National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies as well as to the seats reserved for Women and non-Muslims in the said Assemblies are advised that while filing Nomination Papers with the Returning Officers concerned, they should only indicate therein their party affiliation and they need not to file a Certificate from their political party showing that they are party candidates.
2.         The Secretary, Election Commission further said that all candidates are required to provide such Party Certificate/Party List with the Returning Officer concerned before seeking allotment of prescribed Symbols. 
 
3.         The candidates, who cannot produce party certificates before the Returning Officer on the day of allocation of symbols, they can contest the election on general seats as independent candidates.  For the purpose, they can request the Returning Officers for allocation of symbol other than the party symbol as an independent candidate.  However, party certificate is not required to be produced by the candidates, who are contesting the election against reserved seats
