CEC ASKS PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENTS TO ENSURE PEACEFUL ATMOSPHERE ON POLLING DAY

Islamabad, the 4th October, 2005.- Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Secretary, Election Commission has said that Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner Mr. Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar has directed the Chief Ministers/Provincial Governments should make sure that law enforcing agencies under their control do not create harassment among the candidates and voters. Peaceful atmosphere, which may help the voters to cast their votes freely, in accordance with choice, must be ensured in pre-polling period and on the polling day. For this purpose stringent measures should be taken by Provincial Governments for maintaining law and order on 6th October, 2005, the day when polling for Zila/Tehsil/Town Councils will be held.
