CEC PRESIDES OVER A HIGH-LEVEL MEETING TO ADOPT NEW CENSUS BLOCKS FOR PREPARATION OF FRESH COMPUTERIZED ELECTORAL ROLLS-2011

Islamabad, the 2nd February, 2011.-  Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, Mr. Justice ® Hamid Ali Mirza presided here today a high-level meeting  attended by the Chief Census Commissioner, Mr. Khizer Hayat Khan and Deputy Chairman NADRA, Mr. Tariq Malik to evolve strategy for preparation of accurate fresh computerized Electoral Rolls-2011 in the wake of Statistic Division’s decision to increase the number of Census Block from 1,02,000 to 1,45,000.  Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan Mr. Ishtiak Ahmed Khan, Provincial Election Commissioners, representatives of NADRA, Statistics Division and senior officers of the ECP were also present in the meeting.
 
The Hon’ble CEC announced the decision to start door-to-door enumeration for preparation of fresh computerized Electoral Rolls-2011 from May, 2011. For sensitive electoral areas, the services of armed forces would also be availed to facilitate security of enumeration staff for smooth completion of the process.  The Hon’ble CEC also asked for coordinated efforts among ECP, NADRA and Census Organization for archiving this national objective.
 
            The Secretary, ECP briefed the participants about the preparation of fresh computerized Electoral Rolls-2011 and sought cooperation of the Census Organization and NADRA.   


             The Census Organization promised all possible assistance to the ECP for preparation of Electoral Rolls-2011. They will provide to the ECP description of new demarcated Census Blocks, Circles and Charges along with relevant maps for official use and guidance during enumeration process. The Census Organization will also exchange list of staff engaged by them for House Listing so that the services of the same staff could be utilized during preparation of Electoral Rolls as well. This decision was taken by the Hon’ble CEC after briefing given by the Census Organization regarding changes in the limits of Census Blocks, Circles for ensuing National Census-2011. Previously, the Electoral Rolls were prepared by the ECP in 2006-07 on the basis of census blocks adopted by the Census Organization in National Census-1998.
