CEC refers cases to dpo’s for proceedings against four bogus degree holders

 Islamabad, the 4th January 2011.-     Mr. Justice (R) Hamid Ali Mirza, Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan has referred the cases of following four lawmakers to the District Police Officers (DPOs) concerned for registration of criminal cases for their involvement in corrupt practices under section 78(3) (d) of the Representation of the People Act, 1976 that is cognizable offence under section 94 of the said Act:        
(i)           Mr. Sardar Ali, MPA (PK-34)

(ii)          Haji Nasir Mehmood, Ex-MPA (PP-111)

(iii)         Ms. Saima Aziz (Muhi-ud-din) MPA (PP-Reserved)
 

(iv)          Ms. Safina Saima Khar, MPA (PP-Reserved)
 
The ECP was conducting enquiry in the cases of fake/invalid degree holders on the direction of Hon’ble Supreme Court of Pakistan. The Supreme Court of Pakistan in its judgment had observed that “The Election Commission is directed to initiate action against all such persons who are accused of commission of corrupt practices; of committing forgery and of using, genuine, documents which they knew or at least had reason to believe to be forged.”
 
The ECP/HEC Joint Committee had given them opportunity regarding genuineness of their degrees and to prove the claim of their graduation at the time of filing of nomination papers for the General Elections of February 18, 2008.
