CHIEF ELECTION COMMISSIONER CONSTITUTES ELECTION REFORMS COMMITTEE UNDER CHAIRMANSHIP OF KANWAR DILSHAD, SECRETARY ELECTION COMMISSION OF PAKISTAN
Islamabad, the 22nd April, 2008: The Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner, Justice (Retired) Qazi Muhammad Farooq has Constituted Electoral Reforms Committee, under the Chairmanship of Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan, to propose the electoral reforms. The members of the Committee include Provincial Election Commissioner (Sindh), Joint Secretary (Elections), Joint Secretary (Administration), Joint Secretary (Local Government Elections), Director General (Information Technology) and Section Officer (Law).
2. Mr. Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan elaborated that the Electoral Reforms Committee has been mandated to suggest electoral reforms and appropriate amendments in the existing electoral laws and related acts, rules, regulations, procedures and processes where necessary in light of International and National Election Observation Groups/Missions Reports particularly the European Union Election Observation Mission Report and Canadian High Commission Election Observation Report vis-à-vis the socio-political environment of the country, inline with the best practices of the developed and developing countries of the world. The Committee shall critically analyze the entire electoral process and related areas with the endeavor to make the electoral process more transparent and credible in compliance with international standards. The Committee shall present its report to the Election Commission, highlighting the proposed electoral reforms.
