Chief Election Commissioner has been pleased to direct the Inspector General of Police, Sindh to cancel the transfer Order
Islamabad, the 23rd January, 2008.— Spokesman of the Election Commission of Pakistan has stated that the Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner has been pleased to direct the Inspector General of Police, Sindh to cancel the transfer Order, dated 11.01.2008 of Mr. Mazhar Nawaz Sheikh, previous District Police Officer, Sukkur and recall him to perform his duties as DPO, Sukkur.
The spokesman further stated that on receipt of a complaint against Executive District Officer (Revenue), Gujrat for making transfers/postings of Revenue Staff despite ban imposed by the Election Commission in this behalf, the Hon’ble CEC has been pleased to issue Notice to the said Officer for appearance before him on 24.01.2008 to explain his position in that regard.
The spokesman informed that the Election Commission has so far received 1391 complaints at ECP Secretariat, Islamabad, which have been sent to relevant Government Departments including offices of the Chief Secretaries of the Provinces, District Returning Officers, Inspectors General of Police, etc. for inquiry and report or, as the case may be, comments, appropriate action or disposal in accordance with law under intimation to this Commission.
The spokesman informed that till date about 300 reports have been received. However, perusal of these reports has shown that most of the allegations leveled by complainants were proved baseless, though in certain cases of violation of Code of Conduct, the District Returning Officers/Returning Officers took action and removed the hoardings, etc. complained of. In some cases, when notices were issued to the complainants for appearance before the District Returning Officers/Returning Officers for hearing of the complaint, the complainants either were not available on their addresses or they simply disowned their complaints
