CHIEF ELECTION COMMISSIONER OF PAKISTAN VISITS CANADA TO STUDY CANADIAN ELECTORAL SYSTEM
Islamabad, the 23rd June, 2006.- Mr. Justice (R) Qazi Muhammad Farooq, Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, on the invitation of Canadian Government, has left Islamabad for Canada in order to study the Canadian Electoral System during the period from 23rd June to 1st July, 2006. The delegation will discuss election principles and organization modalities with Canadian Election officials. Their visit will be useful for making improvement in electoral system of Pakistan. Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Federal Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan is accompanying the Chief Election Commissioner.

Mr. Justice Javaid Iqbal, Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan has been nominated by the Chief Justice of Pakistan to act as Chief Election Commissioner during the tour abroad of Mr. Justice (R) Qazi Muhammad Farooq, Chief Election Commissioner. He has taken oath today at 11:00 AM in a brief but impressive ceremony in the Ceremonial Hall of Supreme Court of Pakistan as Acting Chief Election Commissioner. The Honourable Judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, senior advocates and senior officers of Election Commission attended the oath taking ceremony.
