CODE OF CONDUCT FOR POLITICAL PARTIES AND CONTESTING CANDIDATES TO BE FOLLOWED IN LETTER AND SPIRIT

Islamabad, the 5th February, 2008:—  Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan said that it has been observed by the Election Commission of Pakistan that the provisions of the Code of Conduct for the Political Parties and Contesting Candidates, issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan for the ensuing General Elections are not being followed properly in its true sense.
 
2.                     The Secretary Election Commission further said that it is the primary desire of the Election Commission of Pakistan that peaceful and congenial environment may be provided for the contesting candidates for their election campaign and the voters to exercise their constitutional right of vote freely, without any hindrance and in a peaceful atmosphere. It has, therefore, been desired that the political parties should strictly abide by the basic rules of the game and cooperate with the Election Commission of Pakistan in fulfilling its constitutional obligations in connection with the conduct of ensuing General Elections in a credible and effective manner.
 
3.                     Kanwar Dilshad went on saying that as per directions of the Election Commission of Pakistan, a copy of the Code of Conduct for the Political Parties and Contesting Candidates for General Elections, 2007-08 has been once again sent to the Prominent Political Parties with the request that its provisions be followed in letter and spirit.
