DEPLOYMENT OF RANGERS/FRONTIER CONSTABULARY AND SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS FOR BYE-ELECTIONS IN CONSTITUENCIES NO. NA-68 SARGODHA-V, NA-100 GUJRANWALA-VI, NA-155 LODHRAN-II, NA-184 BAHAWALPUR-II AND PP-13 RAWALPINDI-XIII

            Islamabad, the 3rd August, 2010.-   Mr. Justice ® Hamid Ali Mirza,Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan has directed the Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Government of Pakistan for deployment of Rangers at all the polling stations where bye-elections are going to be held on 05-08-2010 and 25-08-2010, for a period of three days i-e before, during and after the polls, in addition to patrolling duties in aid of civil power for maintaining law & order.

 

             The Secretary, Interior has been further directed that the deployment of troops of Rangers be decided in accordance with the apprehension of threat and deployment of Frontier Constabulary may be considered, where necessary. Furthermore, security be provided to all contesting candidates till the completion of the polls of bye-elections in their constituencies to avoid any untoward incident.
 
             Regarding security arrangements, the Chief Secretary, Government of Punjab has been directed by the Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner for adopting strict measures by providing security to all the contesting candidates uptill the completion of polls of bye-elections. Furthermore, the DCOs of respective Districts have been advised to ensure that apart from the Polling Agents of contesting candidates and the voters required to cast their votes at the respective polling stations, no other unauthorized person be allowed to enter in the premises of polling stations. The names and phone numbers of all law enforcement personnel deployed at each polling station be communicated to the respective Returning Officers and Presiding Officers so that they could seek their assistance to ensure peaceful and smooth conduct of polls.
 
              Mr. Justice ® Hamid Ali Mirza has further directed that all executive authorities in their jurisdiction will assist the Election Commission of Pakistan in conducting the polls of bye-elections in a peaceful, transparent, fair and orderly manner.
