DEPUTY ELECTION COMMISSIONERS AND ASSISTANT ELECTION COMMISSIONERS ARE FRONT LINE FORCE OF ELECTION COMMISSION OF PAKISTAN

Lahore, 12th March, 2008: - The Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan, Mr. K.M. Dilshad, presided over a meeting held in the office of Provincial Election Commissioner, Punjab, Lahore, attended by Deputy Election Commissioners and Assistant Election Commissioners, also by the officers of Election Commission Secretariat, Provincial Election Commissioner, Punjab, Lahore and the officers of Provincial Headquarters, Lahore. Mr. K. M. Dilshad, while addressing the meeting congratulated all the field officers on conduct of free, fair and impartial elections in the country and appreciated the efforts and role of the field officers to make these elections a successes. He said that the field officers have made a history in the electoral process of the country through their commitment, dedication and hard working. He advised to all the field officers to be impartial and dedicated. They should perform their duties without any fear or pressure from political stake holders, they also must report if they notice any irregularity in their district pertaining to the electoral process. He further disclosed that an effective training plan has been chalked out to equip the Commission’s officers with knowledge and latest I.T techniques to improve the working of Election Commission of Pakistan. For this purpose, inland and abroad, officers would be trained. All the offices shall be equipped with latest information technology equipments.
Mr. K.M. Dilshad further said that Election Commission of Pakistan actively considering to fully make the Federal Election Academy operational and functional for imparting training for the capacity building of the Commission’s staff. He emphasized on the need of impartiality and objectivity to make the Election Commission of Pakistan a prestigious institution and to establish its credibility in electoral and democratic process. He said that the entire world has appreciated the conduct of General Elections-2008 and has termed it as free, fair, impartial and peaceful. First time in the electoral history of the country, the Election Commission of Pakistan released results of the election on the same day on its website as well as these were available to the subscribers of cell phones. He said further strategy and plan will be considered on the basis of feedback of the field officers and all steps would be taken to improve electoral process through electoral reforms.
