ELECTION CAMPAIGN IN BYE-ELECTION IN KARACHI AND JAMSHORO DISTRICTS SHALL COME TO AN END WITH EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT BETWEEN 8TH & 9TH FEBRUARY, 2007

 

                  Islamabad, the 6th February, 2007.-  Mr. Justice (Retd) Qazi Muhammad Farooq, Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan has drawn attention of contesting candidates for the bye-elections from NA-250 Karachi-XII and PS-71 Dadu-I to the provisions of section 84 of the Representation of the People Act, 1976, which provide that no person shall convene, hold or attend any public meeting and no person shall promote or join in any procession within the area of the constituency during a period of forty-eight hours ending at midnight following the conclusion of the poll for an election in those constituencies. Any person who contravenes these provisions of law shall be punishable with rigorous imprisonment for a term, which may extend to six months or with fine, which may extend to one thousand rupees or with both.
 
2.            Accordingly, the election campaign for bye-elections in the constituencies No. NA-250 Karachi-XII and PS-71 Dadu-I shall, come to an end with effect from the midnight falling between the 8th and 9th February, 2007. The political parties and the candidates are requested to follow the provisions of law and exercise self-restraint so that the poll is held in an orderly and peaceful manner on 10th February, 2007.
