ELECTION COMMISSION OF PAKISTAN IS COMMITTED TO BRING FURTHER IMPROVEMENT IN ELECTION PROCESS THROUGH ELECTORAL REFORMS

Islamabad, the 29th October, 2008.- Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan has said that Election Commission always firmly believed in strengthening democratic culture in Pakistan. It has been playing pivotal role in this regard and will continue to fulfill its constitutional obligations in a fair and impartial manner. He was briefing representatives of High Commission of Canada, Embassy of Japan and Netherlands, USAID, National Democratic Institute, the European Commission, the Asia Foundation, UNDP and  USAID, who called on him in order to gain a better understanding of the currently ongoing Electoral Reforms process by Election Commission of Pakistan. The Secretary briefed them about measures adopted by Election Commission for this purpose as well as the work so far done by Electoral Reforms Committee and working groups. He said that Election Commission is fully committed to work on Electoral Reforms with the objective of further strengthening the Election Commission and improving various election processes. The representatives of donors countries and institutions appreciated that ECP is making efforts to bring improvement to the electoral frame work and procedure and assured their full support for this purpose.
