ELECTION PETITIONS TO BE FILED WITH ELECTION TRIBUNALS APPOINTED BY THE CHIEF ELECTION COMMISSIONER.

Islamabad, the 31st August, 2005.- Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Federal Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan has drawn the attention of all concerned to the provisions of Local Government Elections Rules of the Provinces, which provide that no election shall be called in question except by an Election Petition made by a candidate for that election and that an Election Petition shall be presented to the Election Tribunal appointed by the Chief Election Commissioner. The Election Petitions are required to be filed with the concerned Election Tribunals within 30 days of the publication of Results in the official Gazette.
2. Secretary, Election Commission has said that Notifications containing Results of elections to Union Councils of the Districts in 1st Phase of all the four Provinces have been issued on 23rd August, 2005, whereas for the 2nd Phase have been issued on 30th August, 2005 for publication in the official Gazette.
3. Secretary, Election Commission has further said that before issuance of Notifications of Results for publication in the official Gazette, the complaints received in the Election Commission regarding conduct of aforesaid elections were duly considered and appropriate Orders were issued by the Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner in accordance with law where required. Now, when the Notifications of Results of 2nd Phase have been issued on 30th August, 2005, all aggrieved persons are advised to approach the Election Tribunals, who are Judicial Officers already appointed by the Chief Election Commissioner for the redress of their grievances within the stipulated period of 30 days from publication of Results in the official Gazette.
