FIVE PROMINENT POLITICAL PARTIES PARTICIPATED IN THE MEETING OF THE ELECTION COMMISSION HELD IN CONNECTION WITH FINALIZATION OF CODE OF CONDUCT FOR CONTESTING CANDIDATES AND POLITICAL PARTIES

Islamabad, the 19th November, 2007.— A Meeting of the Election Commission was held today in the Election Commission Secretariat, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of Mr. Justice (R) Qazi Muhammad Farooq, Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan. The Members of the Election Commission Mr. Justice Nasim Sikandar, Judge Lahore High Court and Mr. Justice Ahmed Khan Lashari, Judge High Court of Balochistan were also present.
2. The Meeting was held to finalize the Draft Code of Conduct, prepared by the Election Commission of Pakistan, the contents whereof were circulated to all the Political Parties for their comments/suggestions. The comments/suggestions, received from the Political Parties were discussed threadbare and necessary improvements were made in the Draft Code of Conduct, in consultation with the Representatives of the Political Parties, who participated in the Meeting. Kanwar Dilshad, Secretary Election Commission, giving the details of the Meeting, informed that despite the fact that some of the Political Parties did not participated in the proceedings of the said Meeting, the suggestions/comments, received from them were duly considered and accepted, wherever appeared suitable and necessary, for incorporation in the Draft Code of Conduct for the contesting candidates and the Political Parties.
4. The Secretary, ECP further added that the Election Commission has been pleased to accord approval to the said Draft Code of Conduct with suitable amendments as decided in consultation with the Representatives of the Political Parties
