HON’BLE MEMBER ELECTION COMMISSION PUNJAB, Mr. Justice (R) Riaz KAyani STRONGLY REJECTED THE ALLEGATIONS LEVELED BY FORMER ADDITIONAL SECRETARY ECP, MUHAMMAD AFZAL KHAN

The Hon’ble Member Election Commission, Punjab Mr. Justice (R) Riaz Kayani held a Press Conference today in the Office of Provincial Election Commissioner Punjab and has strongly rejected all the allegations leveled against him by former Additional Secretary ECP, Muhammad Afzal Khan. He commented that all those assertions were part of Afzal Khan’s sinister motives.

Mr. Justice (R) Riaz Kayani said that Afzal Khan is doing all this out of not acceding to his unbridled desires of extensions and promotion. His retirement was due right after the General Elections 2013, but he tried to get extension. In the ECP, important decisions took place with the consensus of four members and Chief Election Commissioner. However, Mr. Justice (R) Riaz Kayani strongly opposed his extension and termed it against Service Rules. Furthermore, Mr. Afzal Khan was upgraded from post BPS-20 to the BPS-21 and from there in one year’s time he submitted an application seeking promotion on regular basis in BPS-22. Again, in accordance with the law, Member Election Commission Punjab strongly opposed the request of Mr. Afzal Khan.

While commenting that “it was a fixed match”, there must be another force acting behind the scene as it is not logical that Mr. Azal Khan waited for 18 months to reveal the rigging allegations. Condemning the allegation by Mr. Afzal Khan that Mr. Justice (R) Riaz Kayani draws a salary of PKR 10,00,000 and also enjoys pension, he said that his salary is far lower than the income stated by the ex-Additional Secretary. He said that his pension was stopped by the orders of Hon’ble Supreme Court and he filed a review against that decision which was his legal right. He said that he have never committed any corrupt deed for which he will have to be ashamed.

Answering to a question regarding the option of taking legal action against Mr. Afzal Khan and Chairman PTI, Mr. Imran Khan, Mr. Justice (R) Riaz Kyani said that Ex-Addl. Secretary has leveled charges against Ex-Chief Justice of Pakistan, a Chief Election Commissioner and two retired judges and for this he should be held accountable. He further added that Election Commission has full power to go for contempt and use its l rights against all these false allegations.

Mr. Justice (R) Riaz Kyani said that he will never resign on demand of such persons who are making false claims to fulfill their ulterior motives.
