INDEPENDENT ELECTION COMMISSION OF AFGHANISTAN'S COMMISSIONER AND CHIEF ELECTORAL OFFICER VISIT ELECTION COMMISSION OF PAKISTAN, SECRETARIAT, ISLAMABAD

            Islamabad, the 26th July, 2006.- The Commissioner and Chief Electoral Officer of Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan accompanied by the IFES representatives working in Afghanistan met  Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Secretary, Election Commission at Islamabad to know about the procedure of preparation of electoral rolls and conduct of elections to seek assistance for implementing the same in their country in the coming years. The delegation was briefed by the Secretary, Joint Secretary (Elections) and the IT Specialists of the Election Commission, Secretariat.

 
 
2.         Secretary, Election Commission informed the delegation that Election Commission of Pakistan is moving towards free and fair conduct of General Elections, 2007 for which the gigantic task of Preparation of Fresh Electoral Rolls has been undertaken. The process, according to the schedule announced by the Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, has commenced throughout the country by preparation of lists of households and the Enumerators will now distribute the relevant Forms for collecting data of eligible voters.
 
 
3.         The delegation was assured that all possible guidance will be provided by the Election Commission of Pakistan as and when required. The Commissioner IEC of Afghanistan showed keen interest in the Federal Election Academy established by the Election Commission of Pakistan. The Secretary, Election Commission offered the services of Federal Election Academy, Islamabad for imparting necessary training to the officers of Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan.
