(Magestarial powers)

                 Islamabad, the 22nd August, 2005.-  In exercise of the powers conferred under Article 2 and 4 of the Local Government Elections Order, 2000 (Chief Executive’s Order No.8 of 2000) and all other powers enabling him in this behalf, the Chief Election Commissioner hereby authorizes the District Returning Officers, Returning Officers, Assistant Returning Officers and the Presiding Officers appointed for each polling station for the conduct of 2^nd Phase of the Local Government Elections – 2005 in the Punjab, Sindh, NWFP and Balochistan Provinces to exercise the powers of a Magistrate First Class on the polling day i.e. 25^th August, 2005 in respect of offences punishable under section 169, section 170, section 171, section 172, section 173 and section 174 of the Local Government Ordinances, 2001 of the four Provinces to take cognizance of any such offence under any of the clauses of sub-section(I) of section 190 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 (Act V of 1898), and to try any such offence in a summary way in accordance with the provisions of the said Code, relating to summary trial.
