MODALITIES AND STRATEGIES FOR ADDITION OF LEFTOUT VOTERS WORKED OUT AND EXERCISE FOR COMPARISON OF ELECTORAL ROLLS, 2002 AND 2006-07 TO COMMENCE FROM 21ST AUGUST, 2007

Islamabad, the 17th August, 2007.- In order to implement the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of Pakistan and on the direction of the Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner, an emergent meeting of the officers of Election Commission of Pakistan was held today under the Chairmanship of Federal Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan in the Election Commission Secretariat, Islamabad. The Provincial Election Commissioners of all the four provinces and the senior officers of the Election Commission participated in the meeting.
2. The modalities/strategies for addition of names of left out voters in the Electoral Rolls, 2006-07, in compliance of orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan were discussed and it was decided that after comparing both the electoral rolls i.e. the electoral rolls, 2002 and the draft Computerized Electoral Rolls, 2006-07, the names which are not appearing in the draft Electoral Rolls and exist in the Electoral Rolls, 2002, may be incorporated and the additional lists may be prepared by the verifying officials, under the supervision of the Registration Officers i.e. Assistant Election Commissioners and Deputy Election Commissioners within 15 days.

Kanwar Dilshad, Federal Secretary has further informed that the Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner has directed the concerned Provincial Election Commissioners that all the Registration Officers in the Provinces, including Federal Capital, Islamabad and FATAs, may be directed to identify the names of all those persons (male/female), who stand enrolled as voters in the existing electoral rolls, which were prepared in 2002 and updated in the year 2004 but their names do not appear in the draft Computerized Electoral Rolls, 2006-07, so that the same are merged with the final computerized electoral rolls to be used for the conduct of forthcoming general elections in the country. The Secretary has further informed that the exercise for comparison of electoral rolls will commence from 21st August, 2007, which will be completed on 4th September, 2007.
