MR. JUSTICE (R) QAZI MUHAMMAD FAROOQ TAKES OATH AS CHIEF ELECTION COMMISSIONER OF PAKISTAN

             Islamabad, the 16th March 2006.-  Mr. Justice (R) Qazi Muhammad Farooq took oath as Chief Election Commissioner today i-e Thursday, the 16th March 2006 at 11:00 AM. Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry administered the oath at an impressive ceremony held in the Supreme Court Building. All the judges of Supreme Court, President Supreme Court Bar Council, Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Federal Secretary Election Commission alongwith officers of Election Commission of Pakistan and senior advocates attended the oath taking ceremony.  Immediately after taking oath of the office, the Chief Election Commissioner visited the Election Commission Secretariat and met with the officers.

 

            Newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner has experience of working in the Election Commission.  He was Provincial Election Commissioner, NWFP from year 1982 to year 1988.  Appointed as Chief Justice, Peshawar High Court in the year 1999 and Judge of the   Supreme Court of Pakistan in the year 2000 and retired on 31st December, 2003.

 
 
            During his service, Mr. Justice Qazi Muhammad Farooq attended the 1st Advanced Course in Shariah in the Islamic University, Madina Munawwara,   participated   in   the   International   Visitor    Programme Administration of Courts in the United States.   He  attended  LAWASIA Trial Court Administrators Conference held in Singapore in the year 1989.  He visited Iran in the year 1992 as a Member of Supreme Court Delegation and attended a course on Alternate Dispute Resolution in San Francisco (USA) in July, 1998.  Remained Member Law Reforms Commission, Judge-in-Charge, Federal Judicial Academy, Islamabad.  He also visited the Peoples Republic of China as a Member of  Supreme Court Delegation and participated in the Australian Educators Forum held in Philippines in February, 2003.  He was also appointed as Member of Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan in the year 2005.
