MR. JUSTICE ®FAKHR-UDDIN-G-EBRAHIM CHIEF ELECTION COMMISSIONER OF PAKISTAN IN CONNECTION WITH ELECTION TO THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT-2013

 Islamabad, the 17th July, 2013.- It is  constitutional responsibility of the Election Commission to hold and conduct Election to the office of the President of Pakistan as Returning Officer for the Election.

 

2.         Under the provisions of Second Schedule to the Constitution, the Election Commission is required to announce the Schedule for Presidential Election and conduct that Election so as to complete the whole process in relation thereto within the stipulated period.

 

3.         For the purpose of holding Presidential Election, the Chief Election Commissioner, in his capacity as Returning Officer, is also required to appoint Presiding Officers to preside over the Meeting of the Members of Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) as well as the Meeting of the Members of the Provincial Assemblies. Besides, the Election Commission is required to fix the date, time and place for depositing Nomination Papers: holding Scrutiny: publishing the list of Validly Nominated Candidates after Withdrawals and holding the Poll.

 

4.         The Nomination forms for contesting Election to the office of the President are available in the ECP Secretariat, Islamabad as well as in the offices of the Registrars of the High Court of the Provinces concerned and the Provincial Election Commissioners, as under:

            (8)       The Provincial Election Commissioner, Sindh, Pak Sectt, Block No.                        44-A, Sharah-e-Iraq, Saddar, Karachi.

            (9)       The Provincial Election Commissioner, KPK, Bungalow No. 11-A                            Michini Road, Peshawar Cantt.

5.         The term of office of the existing President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan is due to expire on 8-9-2013. Pursuant to clause (4) of Article 41 the election to the office of President shall be held not earlier than sixty days and not later than thirty days before the expiration of the term of the President in office. Thus visualized the election to the office of the President is required to be held between 11th July to 9th August, 2013.
