Karachi, the 10th July 2008: Kanwar Muhammad. Dilshad, the Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan presided over a meeting in the office of PEC, Sindh, Karachi said that the Election Commission of Pakistan with collaboration of IFES and funding of US aid and other donor agencies is making all out efforts to establish highly sophisticated IT Infrastructure at Election Commission of Pakistan Sectt, Islamabad and Provincial Hqrs office throughout county. This change will certainly bring revolution in the Electoral Management System in Pakistan. He further said that Management Information System and Geographical Information System are also being installed, which will bring drastic changes in the Electoral System in Pakistan to achieve the objective of transparency and accuracy. While presiding over the meeting of IT wing, he said that it is pleasing to inform that the delivery of High-end-IT equipment for establishing additional IT infrastructure at Election Commission of Pakistan Sectt, Islamabad and all Provincial Election Commissioners Hqrs Office has been commence . This state of the art infrastructure, which is being procured by IFES on behalf of US aid for computerization Electoral System to approach latest IT infrastructure will provide a solid foundation for successful implementation and operationalization of CERS provided at Election Commission of Pakistan Sectt as well as PECs offices in a very very professional approach and will be a milestone in the history of Electoral System in Pakistan. The Director IT also briefed about the IT equipments which are being provided free of cost with the financial assistance of US aid by the IFES.
2. The Provincial Election Commissioner, Sindh Ch. Qamar uz Zaman informed the chair that the jobs being undertaken in the Provincial Hqrs office by the IT wing has very successfully developed EIMS (Employees Information and Management System) which will enable the Election Commission of Pakistan Sectt, Islamabad as well as PECs Office to have latest and very up dated data of all the employees serving in Sindh
Province. The PEC, Sindh further said that this will be a role model for the other provinces as well. The PEC, Sindh further informed about the availability of IT infrastructure, which has already been installed in the PEC Sindh Hqrs office as well as further provision of 512 KB per second connectivity between Election Commission of Pakistan Sectt Islamabad as well as all the Provincial Hqrs.
3. The Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan also said that these changes are due to the day and night efforts of Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner, Mr. Justice (R) Qazi Muhammad Farooq and the Election Commission of Pakistan under his Lordship’s leadership/patronage will be the first county in the world to provide all electoral information/data on the web site as well on the cellular phones.
