Karachi, the 24th September, 2005
A meeting was held today in the office of the Provincial Election Commissioner under the chairmanship of Acting Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan Mr. Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, Judge Supreme Court of Pakistan to overview the arrangements for holding 3rd Phase of Local Government Elections,2005 (Indirect Elections) to be held on 6th October, 2005. The meeting was attended by the Mr. Fazal-ur-Rehman, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Sindh, Provincial Police Officer, Sindh, Additional Home Secretary, Govt. of Sindh, Secretary, Local Govt., Regional Police Officer, Sukkur and Hyderabad, District Returning Officer, Karachi City District. Hon’ble Member Election Commission of Pakistan Mr. Muhammad Sadiq Leghari, Judge, High Court of Sindh and Mr. Ahmed Ali Halepota, Provincial Election Commissioner, Sindh were also present.
2. The Provincial Police Officer, Sindh and Regional Police Officer, Sukkur & Hyderabad have briefed the Hon’ble CEC about the arrangements made by them in connection with holding of free, fair and impartial elections on 6th October, 2005. The Hon’ble CEC directed the participants to be more vigilant and ensure that there should be no lacuna in achieving the target. Keeping in view the importance of 3rd Phase, he directed that all machinery of Provincial Government should be more vigilant than 1st & 2nd Phases.
3. Federal Secretary, ECP, Mr. K. M. Dilshad has informed that National and International media including all private channels highlighted all the activities of Local Government Elections, 2005 on large scale and generally appreciated arrangements made by Election Commission.
