“IMPLEMENTATION OF CODE OF CONDUCT TO BE MADE IN LETTER AND SPIRIT”
                                                       – CHIEF ELECTION COMMISSIONER
 
 
             PESHAWAR 29th July, 2005.-          A high level meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Hon’able Chief Election Commissioner, with all the District & Sessions Judges/District Returning Officers and the senior Officers of the Provincial Government of NWFP. These senior Officers included the Chief Secretary, Additional Inspector General of Police, Secretary Home, Secretary Local Government, Secretary Administration and Secretary Education.  Besides, the meeting was also attended by Federal Secretary, Election Commission, Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Provincial Election Commissioner, NWFP and Director General Nadra.
 
 
            During the meeting the Hon’able Chief Election Commissioner expressed that conduct of elections in a just, free, fair and transparent manner mainly depends upon the performance of District Returning Officers, Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers.  The Election Commission can achieve the target of fair elections if Code of Conduct is implemented in its true essence.
 
 
            The Chief Election Commissioner directed that the Code of Conduct for contesting candidates for the Local Government Elections, 2005 must be implemented in letter and spirit.
 
 
            Besides, the maintenance of Law and Order during the current elections was also discussed.  The Chief Secretary and Additional Inspector General of police assured the Hon’able Chief Election Commissioner of making exemplary security arrangements during the elections.
 
 
            Earlier, Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Federal Secretary, Election Commission in his opening remarks enumerated the objectives of the meeting and told the meeting that the main purpose of convening the meeting was to review the arrangements made by the Provincial Government for maintenance of Law and Order during the current Local Government Elections, 2005.  He also requested the Chief Secretary, to extend full cooperation and facilities to the International Observers who will be reaching in the second week of August to oversee the conduct of Local Government Elections, 2005.
