PERIOD FOR FILING CLAIMS, OBJECTIONS AND APPLICATIONS FOR CORRECTIONS EXTENDED TILL 18TH JULY, 2007.
Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan
Islamabad, the 3rd July, 2007.- Mr. Justice ® Qazi Muhammad Farooq, Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan has revised the Schedule for Preparation of Computerized Electoral Rolls, 2006-07, in pursuance of the Ordinance, dated the 3rd July, 2007, whereby the legal provision with regard to the period of 21 days for filing claims, objections and applications for corrections, as contained in Section 10 of the Electoral Rolls Act, 1974 has been amended and the mandatory period has been extended for another 15 days, which will now expire on the 18th July, 2007 instead of the 3rd July, 2007.
2. The Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner said that with this extension in the Display Period of 2nd Phase has been allowed due to torrential rains throughout the country, especially in the areas of Sindh, NWFP and Balochistan Provinces, which have caused dislocation on a vast scale in these areas and the residents are not in a position to go to the Display Centers established for filing Claims etc. for inclusion of their names as voters in the Electoral Rolls, which factor would render them deprived of their basic right of enfranchisement.
3. The Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner further said that the eligible persons should avail this opportunity and file Claims/Objections/Applications for Corrections in the Draft Computerized Electoral Rolls by the 18th July, 2007 so that the names of all eligible persons appear on the Computerized Electoral Rolls.
