POSSIBILITY OF GHOST POLLING STATIONS ELIMINATED BY THE ELECTION COMMISSION OF PAKISTAN

            Islamabad, the 7th February, 2008:- Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan said that the Election Commission of Pakistan has notified in the official Gazette the locations of 64,176 Polling Stations along with the number of voters assigned at these Polling Stations. These Gazette Notifications are available in the offices of the Returning Officers, District Returning Officers, Provincial Election Commissioner’s offices and in the Election Commission of Pakistan Secretariat, Islamabad.
 
2.         The Secretary, Election Commission has further said that these Polling Stations can be visited and verified by the Contesting Candidates or their Election Agents or the Polling Agents in advance eliminating the possibility of so called Ghost Polling Stations. He clarified that the ensuing General Elections are being held under the Supervision of the District & Sessions Judges, the Executive is mandated only to make logistic arrangements, whereas, the Law Enforcing Agencies will be responsible for providing Security and will not be associated with the Election Process in any way. In additional, International Observers and Domestic Observers will have free access to watch and monitor the Election and Polling Processes. The Civil Society Organizations will also deploy thousands of Election Monitors in all the constituencies all over Pakistan to oversee the Polling Process.
