PROGRESS ON PREPARATION OF FRESH ELECTORAL ROLLS IS SATISFACTORY

                        Lahore, the  5th September, 2006:-           The Federal Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan, Mr. Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, has reiterated that there shall be no compromise on the preparation of authentic and credible electoral rolls in the country.  He was presiding over a meeting of the senior officers of Election Commission of Pakistan, held in the office of the Provincial Election Commissioner, Punjab, Lahore.

 

2.                     The progress of distribution and collection of enrolment forms was reviewed and considered as satisfactory.  All the Provincial Election Commissioners informed the position of distribution and collection of forms-II meant for obtaining particulars of the voters.  Over all 20,476,005 forms distributed and 11,820,732 have been retrieved back by the enumeration staff duly filled in by the house holds.  The Provincial Election Commissioner, Punjab, informed that there are 10.1 Million house holds in the Province of the Punjab. 12,592,408 forms have been distributed and 7,467,337 retrieved by the end of the August, 2006.  Similarly, Provincial Election Commissioner, Sindh had informed that 4,179,819 forms were distributed out of which 2,506,529 have been collected back.  The number of house holds in the province is 6100000.  The Provincial Election Commissioner, NWFP informed the meeting that 2,808,684 forms were distributed out of which 1,386,494 have been retrieved and number of house holds is 2709465.  The Provincial Election Commissioner, Balochistan, presented the figures that the number of house holds in the province is 1003908.  The distribution and collection of forms is 895,094 and 460,372 respectively.  Overall the retrieval of forms is more than 60% by the end of August, 2006.  The Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan said that Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan has emphasized that frequent visits may be made by the field officers to the areas of their jurisdiction for carrying out the preparation of fresh electoral rolls without any hindrance. He said that Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan has directed that the Assistant Registration Officers and Supervisors should start verification of the forms immediately which have been retrieved back.   He said that the complaint centres have already been established should maintain comprehensive records of the complaints received and disposed of by the officers concerned.
