RANGER IS BEING DEPLOYED IN THREE DISTRICTS OF THE PUNJAB ON POLLING DAY.
Lahore the 3RD October, 2005:- The Acting Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, presided over high level meeting in the office of the Provincial Election Commissioner, Punjab. The arrangements were reviewed, which have been made for conduct of In-direct Local Government Elections scheduled to be held on 6th October, 2005 for the election of Zila Nazim, Tehsil / Town Nazim and Seats Reserved of different categories for Tehsil Council as well as Zila Councils. The Chief Election Commissioner, directed the Provincial Government to make fool proof arrangements to provide safe arrival of voters at polling stations. He emphasized that the law and order situation is the responsibility of the Provincial Government and they should make strong and intensive deployment of law and order maintaining forces in and around the polling stations to ensure the safety of public life.
2. The Chief Secretary, Govt. of the Punjab and the Inspector General of Police, Punjab informed that the Rangers has been requisitioned in the sensitive districts Jhang, Kasur and Khushab. They further disclosed that intensive deployment of forces is being made to avoid any un-wanted event on the polling day, Section 144 is imposed in the entire province and every pre-cautionary measurement is being adopted for the conduct of Free, Fair and Impartial Elections in the province. Wireless sets are being provided to the District Returning Officers in the province and every Returning Officer be escorted by SP rank officer in City District Lahore and in other district by an Officer of DSP rank.
3. Earlier, Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan, Mr. Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad said that 3rd Phase of Local Government Elections is very important event is the process commenced with the election of the union councils which going to be culminated with the election of Zila, Tehsil / Town Nazims. He said that the observers from Common Wealth and European Union have appreciated arrangements of the Election Commission of Pakistan made for the conduct of Union Elections. The meeting was attended by Malik Najeeb Ullah, Secretary, Local Government & Rural Development Department, Govt. of the Punjab, Mr. Hasan Waseem Afzal, Secretary Home Punjab, Mr. Rahim Nawaz Khan Durrani, Provincial Election Commissioner, Punjab, Mr. Badar-uz-Zaman, Chattha, District & Sessions Judge / DRO, Lahore and Rana Muhammad Aslam Khan Assistant Election Commissioner (Elections) Punjab, Lahore.
