Revenue Staff despite ban imposed by the Election Commission of Pakistan. The EDO (Revenue) today appeared before the Honorable CEC and tried to justify the postings/transfers made by him

Islamabad, the 24th January, 2008.— Spokesman of Election Commission of Pakistan has stated that Notice was issued to the Executive District Officer (Revenue) Gujrat for appearing before the Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner to explain his position for making transfers/postings of Revenue Staff despite ban imposed by the Election Commission of Pakistan.  The EDO (Revenue) today appeared before the Hon’ble CEC and tried to justify the postings/transfers made by him.  However, his lordship found the justification lacking plausibility and directed the EDO (Revenue) to cancel/withdraw the order in question as it offends against the ban on transfer of civil servants imposed by the Election Commission vide Directive, dated 20.11.2007 and advised him to be careful in future.

The Spokesman informed that on a complaint against ASP, Kohat, received from Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, Vice Chancellor, NWFP University of Engineering & Technology, Peshawar, brother of Syed Iftikhar Hussain Gilani, a Contesting Candidate, the Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner has directed the Provincial Police Officer, NWFP for enquiry into the allegations against the said Police Officer and submit report thereof.

The Spokesman further informed that while disposing of another complaint received from Mr. Ayaz Amir, a Contesting Candidate from District Chakwal regarding violation of Code of Conduct by his opponent candidate, the Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner has directed the District & Sessions Judge/District Returning Officer, Chakwal to take remedial action in accordance with law and report compliance immediately.

The Spokesman added that Sheikh Waqas Akram, a Contesting Candidate from Constituency NA-89-Jhang-IV sent a complaint alleging interference of Tehsil Municipal Administrator, Jhang.  The Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner has been pleased to direct the District Returning Officer, Jhang to call for record of TMA, Jhang and after investigation into the matter send his report to the Election Commission for further action in accordance with law.
