REVISION AND UPDATION OF ELECTORAL ROLLS IN KPK

Islamabad, the 19th February 2015.-      Keeping in view the forthcoming LG Elections in Khyber Pakhtukhwa, expected to be held in May, 2015, the Election Commission of Pakistan has  initiated arrangements for inclusion of names of new NIC holders entitled to be enrolled as voters and exclusion of voters who have become disqualified due to death, nationality surrender, cancelled NICs etc. Initially, 1.2 million voters will be included in the KPK Electoral Rolls out of 7.8 million new NIC holders in order that no new NIC holder from KPK is disenfranchised during KPK LG Elections and approx 41,000 voters will be excluded from the electoral who have either died or become disqualified due to Nationality Surrender, Cancelled NICs etc in respect of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province rolls.

 

             It is pertinent to mention here that the same exercise will also be carried out in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan after completion of delimitation exercise in Punjab and Sindh.

 

             In this regard, the Election Commission has approved the following activities for inclusion of New NIC Holders in the Electoral Rolls and exclusion of disqualified voters from Electoral Rolls of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:

 

 i. NADRA will print and deliver following printed lists to the office of PEC, KPK:

 

             a. Census Block Code / Electoral Area (CBC/EA) wise lists of additions containing           particulars of             New NIC Holders who are entitled to be enrolled on electoral rolls. CBC/EA will be assigned to those new NIC Holders based on their permanent address or Census Block Code already assigned to their other family members (father/ mother/       sister/ brother/ husband/ wife etc).

 

            b. CBC/ EA wise lists of voters who have become disqualified due to deaths, nationality    surrender, cancelled NICs etc, registered in NADRA’s Civil Registry Database, along with lists of voters deleted/transferred under Section-18 of the Electoral Rolls Act, 1974.

 

ii. The above mentioned lists of additions and deletions will be declared as Preliminary Electoral Rolls Lists (PER) and displayed for public inspection during first and second week of March, 2015.

 

iii. The voters/ general public will be provided ample time i.e. 10 days for inspection of said Preliminary Electoral Rolls Lists by displaying the said lists of additions and deletions in the offices of Registration Officers and Assistant Registration Officers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province (295 display centres). Enrollment, Deletion and Correction of votes will be filed on prescribed Forms (A, B and C).

 

iv. ECP’s 8300-SMS will be updated accordingly for the facilitation of general public/voters.

 

v. In addition to above, all Mobile Phone Operators / Telcos will also be asked to send informative messages to subscribers.
