STATEMENTS OF ASSETS AND LIABILITIES TO BE PUBLISHED IN THE OFFICIAL GAZETTE

ELECTION COMMISSION OF PAKISTAN

 
            Islamabad, the 18th October, 2007.- A Meeting of the Election Commission was held on 17th October, 2007 under the Chairmanship of Mr. Justice (R) Qazi Muhammad Farooq, Chief Election Commissioner, which was attended by learned Members, Mr. Justice Nasim Sikandar, Judge, Lahore High Court and Mr. Justice Ahmed Khan Lashari, Judge, High Court of Balochistan. Mr. Kanwar Dilshad, Secretary, Election Commission was also present.
 
In the Meeting, it was decided that:
 
i)          As the Statements of Accounts submitted by 71 Political Parties were found in conformity with the provisions of Article 13 of the Political Parties Order, 2002, it has been decided that these Statements may be published in the official Gazette for information of general public.
 
ii)          The Statements of Assets and Liabilities submitted by the Parliamentarians and the Members of the Provincial Assemblies may be published in the official Gazette and the names of the Members who have failed to file their Statements of Assets and Liabilities  till date shall cease to function till such statements are submitted. It has been decided that the Notifications may be issued accordingly.
 
iii)         The matter relating to the Resolution submitted by Pakistan peoples Party (Sherpao) and the then Chairman, Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarian (Patriots), that both the Political Parties have reverted back to their original positions and have de-merged was considered and it was held that since the matter is subjudice before the High Court of Sindh, the same may be kept pending for the time being. 
 
iv)         The Draft Code of Conduct to be observed by the Political Parties and the Contesting Candidates for General Elections, 2007 may be placed before the Election Commission in its next Meeting scheduled to be held on the 24th October, 2007 for approval, so that copies thereof are provided to the Political Parties and NGOs for their comments.
